Action & Advocacy
The League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County is truly a grassroots organization, actively participating in the public policy process at both the local and state level on regular basis.
We initiate studies and community discussion to inform local policy; respond to community issues through public comment and other methods of communication with our local elected officials; and offer free, public educational programs related to policy and issues of interest to our community.
We take action on an issue or advocate for a cause when there is an existing position that supports the issue or speaks to the cause. Positions result from a process of study, the development of consensus questions that are addressed by the membership, board action, and a consensus statement. The consensus statement becomes our League’s position. Find a compilation of positions taken by the League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County here.
