GET OUT The VOTE

Published on 6/13/2025

GOTV has been quietly preparing for the upcoming election season.  We already have several community events on the calendar for the summer.  We have two upcoming elections:

August 5
(primary election) and November 4 (general election).

We have hosted a few registration events, at various high schools in the County, plus at Northwest Indian College and Whatcom Community College. Our focus this year will be registering voters, updating addresses and answering questions related to voting.  We will hold training sessions for individuals interested in helping at GOTV events or need a refresher.

In Washington State, elections held in odd-numbered years are primarily for
local government positions and matters. These include:

  • City and town officials: such as mayors and city council members.

  • Most special purpose district officials: including those from fire protection districts, public hospital districts, school districts, and water-sewer districts.

  • Vacant partisan offices.

  • Vacant judicial offices (other than district court).

  • Regularly scheduled charter county and judicial offices.

  • Nonpartisan offices (except cemetery & park) with 3 or more candidates.

  • Partisan offices, except unexpired term county offices with a single candidate.

  • School board elections: both primary (in August) and general elections (in November) are held in odd-numbered years.

  • Local ballot measures

There are some exceptions, such as the election of federal officers for the remainder of unexpired terms in either branch of the Congress of the United States. (RCW 29A.04.321)
