League Members in the Wider Community - Who Are You?
Becca J Verda | Published on 7/11/2025
League members are amazing folks -civic minded and generous with their time and resources. After all, that is why they join the League in the first place. Wendy Courtemanche is just one example.
Here is her story:
Wendy Courtemanche’s passion, in addition to hiking, is immigrant support. Wendy speaks fluent Spanish and volunteers with several local organizations, providing accompaniment to immigration appointments and assistance with paperwork and translations. One of the main groups she volunteers with is Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS) and according to Wendy, IRIS particularly needs monetary donations to provide both direct resources and coordination of services for immigrant families. Wendy also works in collaboration with Indivisible Bellingham, WA Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN), and Whatcom Faith Community Immigrant Support network (WFCIS), and collects gift cards for immigrants to be distributed through the Family Resource Centers of Bellingham and Meridian School districts. Wendy, who is chair of our League’s new Immigrant Support Action group, invites any League member who would like to participate in supporting immigrants in Whatcom County to contact her at: wcourte94@gmail.com.
What is your volunteer story? We would like to know how our members show up for the larger community. So we are conducting a short survey to help us get to know each other a little better. What are your passions and contributions outside of the League? If you will share this information with us, we will share the tallied information with you, and together we can celebrate and support each other in those efforts and strengthen the bonds that make Whatcom County such a wonderful place to live.
