Vote NO on IL26-001 & IL26-638 To Protect Vulnerable Kids

Heads up! There are two state initiatives that The League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County and the LWVWA opposes:  IL26-001 and IL26-638. We have partnered with NO Hate in Washington State to campaign for a NO Vote. Learn more about this organization and opportunities to get involved.

Now is the time to educate yourself, and your neighbors about what these initiatives could mean to students in our community.

IL-26-001 would roll back important student privacy protections and make it easier for schools to disclose sensitive information about LGBTQ+ students to parents without the student's consent. These changes could put vulnerable youth at greater risk and undermine the trust students need to seek support at school. Learn more by accessing the LWVWA Issue Paper.

IL-26-638 would prohibit transgender girls from participating in girls' school sports and require sex verification to determine eligibility. The initiative opens the door to invasive verification standards that could affect all student athletes while singling out transgender youth for exclusion.  LWVWA Issue Paper

Mark your calendar for a special Member Meeting Aug. 29th at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall from 10:00am to noon. There will be a presentation on the two initiatives and a discussion about the actions we can take to endorse the NO Vote for IL26-001 and IL26-638. Please plan today to JOIN Us!
